With deep knowledge of the equipment, technology, financing mechanisms, and regulatory issues specific to shipping, the Magnuss team leverages multiple disciplines such as naval architecture, industrial design, manufacturing, strategy, project development, finance and engineering.

Senior Management

James Rhodes - CEO / Co-Founder

Mr. Rhodes is a senior executive and brings over 25 years of experience in maritime shipping, renewable energy, investment banking and management consulting. He is a frequent speaker at industry events and has authored numerous articles on shipping technology. Formerly, Managing Partner of Eco Capital LLC, an energy advisory firm and COO of GE/AES GHG Services, a renewable energy development firm. Prior to that, he was Managing Director at Morgan Stanley for twelve years, after a decade at Goldman Sachs and Booz Allen. MBA - Columbia University, BS in Electrical Engineering - Brown University.


Ted Shergalis - Co-Founder

Mr. Shergalis is a technology entrepreneur. He leverages deep expertise in early-stage business development and operations. In 15 years, Mr. Shergalis has built and sold profitable technology companies, employing hundreds of professionals. After years at Morgan Stanley, he co-founded [x+1] and sold it to Rocket Fuel Inc. (NASDAQ: FUEL) for $230MM; co-founded mobile medical technology company Kinsa Inc.; secured $7.5MM from KPCB; co-founded & seeded two venture capital backed companies and multiple New York City based advertising technology firms including AppNexus. BA in Philosophy - Harvard University.


Eric Holohan - CTO / Naval Architect

Mr. Holohan is a Naval Architect, a Master Marine Technician and Lloyds of London accredited Marine Surveyor. Mr. Holohan is the chief designer of the Magnuss VOSS™ (Vertically-variable Ocean Sail System), which is patented and class approved. He leverages over 20 years of experience working in both the United States and Europe and has completed more than 250 projects spanning new ship builds to restorations and rebuilds. BS - Naval Architecture, State University of New York Maritime College, Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology.
